More About Megan
I was born in Maryland, earned my B.A. in psychology from Elon University in North Carolina, and earned my Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I am a faculty member within the Department of Educational, Counseling, and School Psychology at the University of Kentucky.
I see teaching, research, and practice as complementary ways of engaging in social justice work on multiple levels and enjoy work in each of these domains. As a white, US-born, upper middle class, genderqueer butch lesbian, I am motivated to use my privileges and resources to work toward liberation from oppression in collaboration with others.
At the University of Kentucky, I teach graduate classes including Practicum (EDP 665), Social Justice Consultation and Evaluation (EDP 707), and Vocational, Career, and Professional Issues in Counseling Psychology (EDP 666). Learn more about my research here. My clinical work is guided by relational-cultural theory, and I specialize in working with queer, gender-expansive, and questioning college students and young adults.
I engage in scholar-activism through my involvement with United Campus Workers of Kentucky, and I am a proud union member. Additionally, I am involved with the Society of Counseling Psychology’s (APA Division 17) Section for Advocacy of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity (SASOGD). I also enjoy providing professional and research mentorship, so please reach out if you have questions about my work or are interested in joining my lab.
When I’m not working, you can find me participating in local queer and poly community, reading, hiking, watching sports, and spending time with my wife, partners, and cats.
